Lithium Alginate

Molecular formula: (C6H7O6 Li ) n

Description:

It occurs as a white to yellow, fibrous or granular powder, almost odorless and tasteless. It

          dissolves in water to form a viscous, colloidal solution. It is insoluble in alcohol

          and in hydroalcoholic solutions in which the alcohol content is greater than 300

          by weight. It is insoluble in chloroform, in ether, and in acids having a pH lower

          than 3.

Application:

Lithium Alginate is a natural polysaccharide extracted from kelp like brown seaweed. It

mainly used as wet state adhesive and elasticizer in the electrode coat.
